Yala National Park

Yala National Park is the second largest wildlife park in Sri Lanka, renowned for its diverse ecosystems and vibrant wildlife. Located in a semi-arid climate, the park features vast dry woodlands and expansive grasslands, divided into five distinct blocks that each offer unique experiences for visitors.

A jeep safari through Yala is an unforgettable adventure, where you might encounter the playful antics of a juvenile bull elephant—though rest assured, such encounters are harmless and part of the elephant’s daily routine. The park is home to a rich variety of wildlife, boasting around 32 species of mammals, 125 species of birds, as well as numerous reptiles and lagoon fauna.

Yala National Park is particularly famous for its stunning peafowl, lively monkeys, trumpeting elephants, and the elusive Sri Lankan leopard (Panthera pardus kotiya), which gracefully navigates the underbrush in search of its next meal. The end of the dry season is the ideal time to visit, as animals gather around shrinking waterholes, offering a spectacular wildlife viewing experience.
